Dallas Sports, I love you but you’re bringing me down

November 17, 2008

In the last few days I’ve had multiple people ask me what was wrong, there seems to be a an air of gloom hanging over me that people are catching that I seem to be completely ignoring. And, while I try to deny it there’s a smidge of truth to their questions, there obviously has been spotty work done on this site in the last bit of this year, and although I try to chalk it up to my work done during the election season the fact of the matter is I may be suffering from sports exhaustion. Sunday Night Football sorta live blog: John Madden is transperant as fuck

September 14, 2008

Seriously he’s always bringing up the size of someones feet, or hands, or height or just how big someone looks. Not that I’m insinuating anything, but I’m pretty sure these are the same traits Sidney Crosby notices.

Sunday Night Football sorta live blog: NBC Analyst continue to beat deceased horse to death.

September 14, 2008

The world was shocked when about 45 seconds ago NBC Sunday Night Football analyst John Madden, and Al Micheals took turns taking a baseball bat to a horse that had already passed a mere two hours ago. NBC Studio Analyst Chris Colinsworth, Tiki Barber, Jerome Bettis, and Bob Costas are said to be eagerly awaiting their second go around at taking shots at the deceased stallion.

Sunday Night Football sorta live blog: Congrats NBC…

September 14, 2008

you have successfully created the worst thing in the world, with your Faith Hill “Sunday Night Football” bastardization of Joan Jett’s “I hate myself for loving you”. On a side not a hurricane named Ike destroying Texas would have been subtlety ironic in 1965.

It’s intresting to note…

That the NFL broadcast on fox started off with an extended Microsoft commercial featuring a rather lame bit with Jerry Seinfeld interacting with Bill Gates at the mall, we’re supposed to sit there and say “Ha look at that! They’re at the mall that’s absurd!”, adding a Spanish speaking family , and ample use of the word conquistador, along with a shoe store that is called circus is supposed to come off as clever, but to me it just shows how vast the divide is between Apple and Microsoft’s target demographic.

Apple makes it a point to attach it’s humorous “I’m a Mac” commercials to what is considered hip programing, [adult swim], House, 30 rock, Conan etc., while It seems that Microsoft has sunk heavy money into the NFL hoping to hold on to it’s base (mid to upper middle class America over 35) people who grew up with windows, and are less likely to change. And, honestly it’s an interesting ploy. When attending Rangers games I consistently notice that around the 7th inning they regularly insert the same archival clip of Seinfeld into the shots of the crowd, and it’s gotten the same pop every time I’ve been there. But, that’s at a sparsely attended baseball game where people are just happy to see something other then the home teams pitcher give up another hit, where does his popularity set nationally?

The intriguing part in all this is where the 18 to 25 and 25 to 28 male market is going to swing, these are the same group that is considered the key demographic for both the “hip” programing and the NFL. Having spent nearly a year with “I’m a mac” commercials, are they likely to be swayed by a commercial featuring a comedian who’s last big feature was failed children’s movie, and a billionaire who has been relatively out of the spot light? Or, are they likely to stay with the ad they know? The funny thing is Microsoft is hoping that a known face will help them get some of that demo back without even thinking that people are now more accustomed to seeing Justin Long, and John Hodgman, then the man who was once the biggest star in the world.

Man sometimes it pays off to be wreckless

August 23, 2008

I’m broke. The country is in a recession, the election is gearing up football is almost here all types of things are going on, the Olympics have captured the attention of lame people like it was something to do (note. basketball is never lame) so I needed a little reprieve from the world so last night I threw down my hard earned cash which I had no business spending and was lucky enough to have fate smile upon me and I got to see this.

My Morning Jacket & Erykah Badu \”Tyrone\”

Top Albums year by year.

July 7, 2008

This has been making it’s way around the blogs, and music sites of of late.

List your favorite record from every year you’ve been alive.

You can do it based purely on hindsight, or you can do it by listing the answer you would’ve given in that year (assuming you were aware of pop music at the time).

And, damn if it isn’t hard but I figured I would give it a shot. [Read more]
