Mildly Misinformed College Picks with JP Falcon week 1

August 26, 2008

Hello and welcome to an all new feature here on the Kings court, Mildly Misinformed College Picks with yours truly. What’ the catch you ask? Well for starters I pay passing attention to college football, but enough to hold my own in a conversation, and like many other things (coke, whores, mint tea, and oddly enough the Nickelodeon show Yo Gabba Gabba) I’m addicted to gambling if you know it was legal. So here’s the deal I’m going to pick way too many games, even some I’ll have no knowledge about, any toss ups are solved Harvey Dent style, and I’m not responsible for you losing your shirt/house/girlfriend/hair/whatever else your dumb enough to bet. So here we go… [Read more]

I’m broke. The country is in a recession, the election is gearing up football is almost here all types of things are going on, the Olympics have captured the attention of lame people like it was something to do (note. basketball is never lame) so I needed a little reprieve from the world so last night I threw down my hard earned cash which I had no business spending and was lucky enough to have fate smile upon me and I got to see this.

Favre to the J-E-T-S

August 6, 2008

Brett Favre joining J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS

As a hardcore Jets fan, I must admit I was not very excited about the possibility of Brett Favre coming to the Meadowlands when the trade rumors first began to surface a few weeks back. But there is nothing like a late night phone call when you’re watching Disney’s Peter Pan to get your blood pumping. I was literally as giddy as a schoolgirl, and I must say I still am. Three things about this trade have increased that excitement even more:

1) Aside from the fact that this team is just two years removed from a 10 win season and a playoff berth, the addition of Favre gives the Jets instant credibility with a literal living NFL legend. While we may not have the most talented receiving corps in the NFL, we finally have a quaterback who can make all the throws. And while it is true that Favre is quite old by athletic standards, the last we saw of him was an MVP caliber season. The Jets have a much improved offensive line, which should help Thomas Jones’ production, as well as a very solid defense. This could be a year where we are able to make a strong playoff run. But maybe I’m just getting ahead of myself.

2) The additon of Bubba Franks at tight end looks that much better. True, it has been a few years since Franks was a legitimate offensive weapon, and no one is going to be mistaking him for Antonio Gates or even Kevin Boss anytime soon. But the last time Bubba was an effective weapon, he had ol’ #4 throwing touchdown passes his way. I look forward to that reunion, and seeing how said reunion may benefit the Jets on the field this season, especially with the various question marks surrounding Chris Baker.

3) As always, we will be playing the Patriots twice this year. I think we in the viewing public will get a real treat watching Tom Brady and Brett Favre go head to head for at least this year; maybe next year if Favre decides to finish out his contract.

All in all, I think this trade can only benefit the Jets. And if by some chance we do make the Super Bowl this year, the 1st round pick we lose will be well worth it. J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!
