Be wary of youtube: Tony Parker rap videos a quick review

June 30, 2008

Athletes and music go together like, uhm well they don’t really go together, fans of sports stars are always forced to hear about their favorite players ill advised forays into the sonic world, from Bronson Arroyo’s cover album of mid 90’s alt rock radio jams, to Bernie Williams putting out a Latin jazz album we the fan have suffered. Yet nothing put out by out of touch baseball players could come close to the travesty that is basketball players rapping. Yes from K.O.B.E. to Jewelz and back around to Shaq-Fu basketball players have been torturing us with not so witty lyrics like we’re a collective group of Iranian business men who stumbled into the 9/11 memorial celebration. But my friends nothing is quite as bad as a certain French point guards forays into French Dance Rap. I now give you Tony Parker rapping. [Read more]

Tiger vs. Phil vs. the rest of golf

June 23, 2008

Here is a nice statistic to mull over now that Tiger Woods’ season is over and the popularity of golf for the rest of the season has officially died: Tiger and Phil are number 1 and number 2 in the World Golf Ranking, respectively. Tiger’s rating is 21.14; Phil’s is 10.08. For non-math majors out there, that is a difference of 11.06. The last player on tour with an actual rating is Anthony Grenier, coming in at #1361 in the world with a whopping rating of .01. The difference between Grenier and Phil is 10.07. So basically, Tiger’s gap over Phil is almost a full point better than Phil’s gap over the last ranked golfer who actually has a points rating. Scary, no?

It’s gotta be said

June 20, 2008

in a time where pirating of music, and digital downloads rule our listening habits, artist arn’t expected to have astonishing album sales. We’ve seen the rise of the single, and the ringtone. We’ve heard Ghostface Killer come out and say “I thought ya’ll loved me” when talking about his album sales. Which is why Lil Wayne’s sales are shocking to say the least. Mr. Carter III Wayne’s latest album has just become the first album in three years to sell more then a million albums…think about that for a moment Lil wayne has outsold Springsteen, Jay Z, Kanye, Madonna, and dozens of other names that are much bigger in the scope of the US Weekly crowd. Which goes to prove that word of mouth, good production values, mixtapes (that supposedly sucked Wayne’s dick but didn’t let him cum) are enough to give people what they want. A good fucking album that actually lives up to the hype (I’m looking directly at you Kanye) that has enough commercial appeal to cross over into different intersections of people. Well that and “Mr. Carter” has one hell of a backing track.

Following the example of the Celtics and the Lakers….

using former organization members to bolster their teams, is there any chance that Ernie Grunfeld and Patrick Ewing can collaborate on making the Knicks a contender?
